Blog Post # 3 Guidelines

The Oxford English Dictionary defines a “foodie” as “a person with a particular interest in food; a gourmet”. In some respects, the availability and popularity of cookbooks, food memoirs, restaurant reviews, cooking shows, and “foodie culture” in American society has made appreciation for good food more accessible to the wider public. However, appreciating good food may also involve a lot of money and time, which your average middle-class or working-class person may not have.

Write a 1,500-2,000 word essay making a claim about foodie culture in relation to socioeconomic status, and support your claim with evidence. Write your article for a general audience. For examples of writing style and format, take a look at articles from the following magazines: Time, Newsweek, Slate, The Atlantic, The New Yorker.

The evidence you use may include:

·Observations about the various texts and shows we’ve read and watched in this class.

·Any other books, articles, TV shows, films, etc. you’d like to read or watch on your own which might provide further support for your claim.

For in-text citations and bibliography, use MLA format. (Guidelines for MLA formatting can be found in the course e-book.)
