I have lived in Illinois my entire life. When it was time for me to move here, Atlanta, to college I knew that I would miss many things. But when it comes to food, there is one culinary tradition that I miss above all others. It started in a city at the northern end of the state and has since become world famous. I'm talking about Chicago's deep dish pizza.
If you've never had pizza Chicago style, then your missing out. This pizza is so hefty that one slice can fill you up, but you force yourself to eat more because of the heavenly taste. My favorite is a huge, extra deep dish, meat lovers pizza with extra tomato sauce and extra garlic, minced not powdered. If your travels ever take you to the great city of Chicago, don't leave until you have tasted the best pizza the world has to offer!
It looks like someone could make a deep dish pizza. A cake pan with some home-made pizza dough along the edge. The pan filled with cheese, tomato sauce, and some other ingredients. Cook until inside is warm, and its done. The hardest part would be getting to the right temperature.

I can't understand why some people prefer thin pizzas. The more pizza the better!
ReplyDeleteThat actually llooked like a pie to me before...but nice looking pizza.. Actually yeah why doesnt they dining hall cook thicker crusted pizzas. The thin ones finish up so fast and dont quite fill me up..

ReplyDeleteIt looks so fantastic... I have rarely tried pizzas after coming to U.S. And all the pizzas I have tasted are basic styles. Nothing like the one you showed us. It's a pity...
ReplyDeleteMmm yeah that looks good. I love pizza. Goodfellas has some excellent pizza if you're in the mood. The 10"is great to split between two people. I would definitely recommend it. When I was in New York I went to this one pizza place and their slices were close to a foot long. As big as your face. it was crazy. Two slices were more than enough for three people.
ReplyDeleteWow, when I first looked at the picture I was confused about what that food was, but man PIZZA that is one hefty load of food. Just looking at that picture made me full. I wonder though how it actually taste, I will try that pizza for sure if I ever go to Chicago.
ReplyDeleteGood pizza is one of the things I miss most too. When you want real pizza, pizza hut and papa john's just don't cut it. I'm from Connecticut so I'm used to thin-crust pizza, but I've always wanted to try real deep dish pizza.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look like a pizza as much as a cake. I remmebered that pizza is actually Italian food and then adapted to America. Now it seems that it became more vivid. Food is really an interesting thing which combines cultures together.
