Despite the somewhat odd-sounding name (or rather odd-sounding to my ears), Maum is a great place to study or relax. The bakery-cafe serves bakery items, including various freshly-baked breads in the fluffy white form that Asians adore and that Michael Pollan detests.
The decor has a sort of French provincial style to it. They serve coffee, bubble-tea, sandwiches, and frozen yogurt in addition to their breads and pastries. They also offer free wireless and you can camp out and study there for the whole day.
The one catch? They're on the Buford Highway, so you'll need a car. Here's the site for more information: Bakery Cafe Maum.
And here are photos!

Ahhhh!! You went there Dr. Tiff !! (:
ReplyDeleteThat fire place reminds me of my friend's birthday. One of my friends and I bought the cake for our friend. We sat around the fire place for a long time because it was one of the coldest day.
I am definitely visiting Maum this thanksgiving weekend.
Yeah, actually it was your (Jason's) post which inspired me to post the pictures I took. Even though I've been in the States for a long time, I really miss Asian things once in a while and begin looking for Asian restaurants/cafes/stores to visit and hang out in.
ReplyDeleteThis place looks really chill! I think the atmosphere would be a good place to study like you were saying.
ReplyDeleteA great place to study and relax? I see there are seats in the shop, but I doubt whether they will allow me to study there if I don't buy a single piece of bread.
ReplyDeleteWow, the cafe has a wide variety of food/bread choices. From observing the pictures, it does seem that it would be the perfect place to relax and study. If you had to give it stars, what would it receive?

Looks like a comfortable place to stop and check your email. The bread looks good too. I am wondering if it might be too loud to study though, a lot of times I lose focus when it's too loud. But ya, buford highway would be hard for me to get to.
ReplyDeleteOMG, this looks abosolutely mouth-watering. Why have I never been to places like this one. I am a big fan of bread!
ReplyDeleteI always love going into places like this and admiring the food. Its one of those "I want you, but can't have you moment" because usually I don't bring along the money to buy what I want. Which reminds me, I should get something for Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that Asian bakeries tend to have a very cozy feel to them. Just recently, a bunch of Asian bakeries have popped up around Alpharetta so I've been to a few and they usually have a cottage feel to them. Though I have a very strong sweet tooth, something I like about Asian baked goods is that they are not too rich. They're usually very light and sweet.
ReplyDeleteResponse to Michael: I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. Even though the drinks are slightly more expensive than Starbucks (the breads and most of the pastries are reasonably priced), you get to camp out and study there for the whole day if you want to.
ReplyDeleteResponse to Wade: Yeah, you'll probably have to purchase something in order to purchase time and space there. Free wireless, though!
